Who is Charles? Why does he hate Alison so much?
Okay, so basically I'm going with the obvious answer that 'Charles' is Jason and Alison's brother, but I don't think Jason and 'Charles' are twins, I think Charles is the baby of Ken and Jessica and he's a bit older than Jason, maybe a year older. I think that Ken genuinely thinks Charles is dead. I'm thinking that 'Charles' was violent as a child, and maybe he was the reason that Alison broke her arm, so Ken wanted to send him to Radley. Jessica, working at Radley, knew how bad it was, and really didn't want 'Charles' to go there, as he was so young, but Ken insisted. So one day, Jessica was at home alone with the kids and she took Charles to an adoption agency, and requested that his name was changed. She then went home and told Ken that there was an accident and Charles died, and that explains why Ken is certain 'A' can't be 'Charles'. I think 'Charles' was then located to England and became Wren. I think he lived there until he was around 15, and then ran away, back to Rosewood to confront Jessica, and demanded to know why he was given up, but Alison and Jason weren't. I think Jessica then gained his trust and then referred him to Radley, as he was now old enough to handle it. In Radley he met Bethany and became best friends with her. I believe he was in Radley for 3 years and become very close to Bethany, and got regular visits from Jessica. Jessica didn't know that Bethany and Charles were so close, so after she began having an affair with Bethany's father, she began taking her out, to make Bethany like her. Bethany then found out about the affair and began to hate Jessica. Bethany and Charles/Wren then figured out that Jessica was visiting both of them, so Charles/Wren became angry that Jessica was taking Bethany out and not him, and that she was cheating on his father. That's when Bethany started drawing all of the weird drawings of Jessica. On the night Alison disappeared, Bethany and Charles/Wren escaped Radley and planned to confront Jessica. When they got there, Charles/Wren saw Alison, and jealousy took over him. He went behind her and hit her over the head with the rock. Jessica witnessed it from the window, and came out to help them bury Alison. When she was saying "What have you done", the 'you' could have been said as a plural. I think Jessica then told them both to run away and go back to Radley. I think Charles/Wren ran, but Bethany felt terrible about what had happened, so went back to see if Jessica was okay. Whilst she was walking towards the house, Byron (who had been drinking) hit her from behind, thinking she was Alison (Alison had been blackmailing him about his affair). He was so drunk that he didn't remember any of it the next morning. Melissa then saw the body, assuming Spencer had done it, buried Bethany thinking it was Alison. When Charles/Wren realised Bethany hadn't come back to Radley with him, he assumed she was scared of him after what he'd done. He escaped again the next day. That's when he kidnapped Sara, because he missed Bethany and needed a replacement. He bought the dollhouse, with money that Jessica had given him and put Sara in it.
Two years later, when he discovered Bethany was dead and Alison was alive, he assumed Alison killed Bethany and he vowed to get revenge. That's why he got Mona to fake her death and get Alison put into prison. You would think he would want to punish Ali by putting her in the dollhouse, but I think he started to genuinely think of Sara as Bethany, so putting Ali in the dollhouse would be endangering Sara (Bethany). After Mona had faked her death, he needed an Ali doll, but not the original, because she was dangerous. So instead, he used Mona. During her time in the dollhouse, I believe Sara was Red Coat, and Charles/Wren made her leave the dollhouse to do his dirty work, when he couldn't do it himself. Finally, I believe he kidnapped the four liars because he planned on eventually re-creating the night of Bethany's death, but with a different outcome; Bethany (Sara) surviving, and Alison (Mona) dying. That's why Aria was made to put the purple streaks in.
Of course I have missed out some important things that happened during the two year gap. I think Wren dated Melissa and Spencer so he could be closer to the family, and Jessica, and get information. I think he killed Jessica, because she was going to tell the police everything that happened on the night of Bethany's death.
The only things I can't figure out, are:
- Why Mona was 'A'
- CeCe's involvment (why was she listening in at Ezra's door?)
- Why he would torture the four liars
